A little Valentine's History and Gift Suggestions

The British Library in London displays a love poem that is considered to be the oldest and earliest record of a Valentine which was written in 1415.While he was imprisoned in the Tower of London, Charles, Duke of Orleans, wrote a poem to his beloved, Bonne d'Armagnac. The first two lines of his poem were: "Je suis deja d'amour tanné / Ma tres dolce Valentine..." Valentine's Day sentiments became known as "poetical or amorous addresses."

Here are a couple of our favorite Valentines Day items:

The Right Jewelry

Jewelry can accent what you are wearing. It can also distract. If you tend to wear that same tired black dress to too many functions again and again, you may want to opt for some new ways in wearing your accessories to "doll it up."
The right piece, can set your look apart from others, and express your own individual style.
Here are some new ways to maybe wear jewelry you may already own.

There's been a lot said of statement pieces. Statement pieces are just that, a pieces that makes a STATEMENT. It doesn't whisper, but rather it speaks in an "OUTSIDE" voice.
It is worn to get attention.
This could be a necklaces, an eye-catching pair of earrings, a ring worn on your index finger.
Something unexpected. Something new can be things you already own, worn in a new way, but it can also require a new purchase or two.

Here's a few options to inspire:
  • Maybe a large ring that doesn't match a thing you are wearing.
  • Maybe a single wrist full of bangle bracelets (5~8 of them), in either gold or silver or maybe a combination of both.
  • Maybe you wearing more than one pendant on a chain at a time, as a collection, something that tells a story. If you think you don't have a story, then it's okay to make one up...
  • Maybe you try wearing chains longer than usual, say 30~40" long, and hang a bauble off the end. The movement of a longer chain with a pendant dangling is a conversion piece!
  • Maybe you take several toggle style bracelets and attach them together to create a new necklace
  • Maybe you add a pendant to pearls or beads which you usually wear alone by the aid of a pendant enhancer.
  • Maybe you mix your metals, white, rose and yellow gold all worn together.
  • Maybe you wear more than one watch at a time, each set to different times...
  • The options are endless and the rules no longer apply
