Home safes and Chris Bosh Jewelry Burglary

The recent home burglary of Miami Heat star, Chris Bosh, provides a reason to look at look at your own home security. Bosh had almost $500,000 of Jewelry, purses and cash stolen from his home.

For your jewelry and other valuables , a home safe can provide a high level of protection if you choose the right one. Safes come with theft and fire ratings based on how long they’re tool resistant (TL) or torch resistant (TR). A TL15 rating means that a safe has been tested to hold off a burglar, using common hand held tools, for at least 15 minutes. While this is not perfect, keep in mind that most burglars are interested in getting in and out very quickly. A TL30 rating provides an even stronger barrier to fight through. An inner safe temperature of 350 degrees Fahrenheit or below will generally keep your jewelry and other valuables from being damaged in a fire. An example fireproof rating would be a 1-1/2 hour 350 degree F rating. This rating means that the safe could be exposed to a 1700 degree F fire for a period of 1-1/2 hours, and that the temperature inside the safe would not rise above 350 degrees F.

Other Home Jewelry Safety Tips:

  • If you do not have a safe and you where the item infrequently, consider keeping it in a safe deposit box.
  • For insurance purposes, take a picture of the item or collection. Get into the habit of keeping a photo record of all of your Jewelry items. This helps to document your loss and speeds up the claims process.
  • Update the value of your jewelry. Expensive items increase or decrease in value from year to year. Talk to your insurance professional about how to make sure the dollar amount of your floater or endorsement reflects these changes.

Lustre Grading

Paspaley are among the most beautiful pearls in the world. Each pearl is carefully graded according to the 'five virtues': lustre, complexion, shape, colour and size, the traditional method by which all fine pearls are graded.

Movies, Stars and Jewelry, a Perfect Combination.

When we watch movies, we can't take our eyes off the fabulous jewelry!

Breakfast at Tiffiny's movie has some of the most memorable jewelry ever worn by Audrey Hepburn. The iconic image of her in that little black dress, adorned with a stunning pearl necklace and sparkling earrings, remains a classic look among trendsetters. That signature bouffant hairstyle is the perfect canvas to display her incredible tiara. Hepburn wore pearls like no other in film as Holly Golightly.

Although she famously sang Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend, Marilyn Monroe did not own much expensive jewellery. At the 1999 Christie's sale, the only diamonds of note were those in a 35-baguette eternity ring given to her by Joe DiMaggio; he also bought her a 16-inch strand of Akoya pearls, which she gave to Paula Strasberg. The rest of her jewels were costume pieces.
