Movies, Stars and Jewelry, a Perfect Combination.
When we watch movies, we can't take our eyes off the fabulous jewelry!
Breakfast at Tiffiny's movie has some of the most memorable jewelry ever worn by Audrey Hepburn. The iconic image of her in that little black dress, adorned with a stunning pearl necklace and sparkling earrings, remains a classic look among trendsetters. That signature bouffant hairstyle is the perfect canvas to display her incredible tiara. Hepburn wore pearls like no other in film as Holly Golightly.
Although she famously sang Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend, Marilyn Monroe did not own much expensive jewellery. At the 1999 Christie's sale, the only diamonds of note were those in a 35-baguette eternity ring given to her by Joe DiMaggio; he also bought her a 16-inch strand of Akoya pearls, which she gave to Paula Strasberg. The rest of her jewels were costume pieces.

Helpful Tips For Taking Care Of Your Jewelry
Our friends at Chubb Insurance published some great tips for taking care of your precious jewelry items.
Jewelry Care
With Valuable Articles coverage, your jewelry can be itemized, with each piece described and individually valued on your policy. By itemizing your jewelry, you don't have to worry about an accidental loss, chipped stone or stolen item. You can also help prevent jewelry losses or damages by following these simple tips to properly care for your valuables:
Preventing Damage
Always separate jewelry items by storing them in soft cloth in a jewelry box or a safe deposit box. Obtain fabric pouches from a jeweler or retailer. Make sure you leave enough space for each item in a jewelry box or storage area. Twisting and bending of semi-rigid chains and pieces can cause permanent damage.
Protecting from Loss
Jewelry should be checked periodically by your jeweler to make sure that prongs and clasps are secure. Never spray colognes or hair spray when wearing pearls as the chemical content can permanently damage your pearls. Pearls should be restrung every 2 to 3 years if worn frequently.
Guarding Against Theft
It's best not to keep your most precious jewelry in your bedroom or jewelry box. Statistics show that bedrooms are the first place burglars enter after breaking into a home. For optimum security, store valuable jewelry in a secure home safe, approved by Underwriters Laboratory (UL). When travelling, never pack your jewelry in your luggage and always use a hotel vault or security vault when you arrive at your destination.

Caring for Specific Pieces
- Watches - Replace broken or scratched crystals immediately - even
hairline cracks can allow dust or moisture into the mechanism, threatening its
accuracy. Check your watch clasp periodically to prevent accidental
loss.
- Diamonds - Even though a diamond is the hardest transparent substance
known to man, it's still important to be careful. Be cautious while engaged in
rigorous activity and when cleaning the diamond, use mild detergent or a sudsy
ammonia bath. Never let your diamond come into contact with chlorine bleach, as
it can pit and discolor the mounting. Have your prongs and mountings checked
annually and your stone professionally cleaned at least once a year.
- Pearls - Pearls need special care since they can easily dry out and
become damaged due to lotions, cosmetics and hairspray. Have your pearls cleaned
and restrung regularly to prevent pearl strings from becoming stretched,
weakened or soiled. Wash pearls with mild soap and water after each wearing.
Over time, perfume, cosmetics and hair sprays can erode the quality of your
pearls.
- Gemstones - Guard against loose settings by having prongs and mountings checked annually. Because each gemstone is different, check with your jeweler for specific care and cleaning procedures.

A little Valentine's History and Gift Suggestions
The British Library in London displays a love poem that is considered to be the oldest and earliest record of a Valentine which was written in 1415.While he was imprisoned in the Tower of London, Charles, Duke of Orleans, wrote a poem to his beloved, Bonne d'Armagnac. The first two lines of his poem were: "Je suis deja d'amour tanné / Ma tres dolce Valentine..." Valentine's Day sentiments became known as "poetical or amorous addresses."
Here are a couple of our favorite Valentines Day items:

The Right Jewelry
Jewelry can accent what you are wearing. It can also distract. If you tend to wear that same tired black dress to too many functions again and again, you may want to opt for some new ways in wearing your accessories to "doll it up."
The right piece, can set your look apart from others, and express your own individual style.
Here are some new ways to maybe wear jewelry you may already own.
There's been a lot said of statement pieces. Statement pieces are just that, a pieces that makes a STATEMENT. It doesn't whisper, but rather it speaks in an "OUTSIDE" voice.
It is worn to get attention.
This could be a necklaces, an eye-catching pair of earrings, a ring worn on your index finger.
Something unexpected. Something new can be things you already own, worn in a new way, but it can also require a new purchase or two.
Here's a few options to inspire:
- Maybe a large ring that doesn't match a thing you are wearing.
- Maybe a single wrist full of bangle bracelets (5~8 of them), in either gold or silver or maybe a combination of both.
- Maybe you wearing more than one pendant on a chain at a time, as a collection, something that tells a story. If you think you don't have a story, then it's okay to make one up...
- Maybe you try wearing chains longer than usual, say 30~40" long, and hang a bauble off the end. The movement of a longer chain with a pendant dangling is a conversion piece!
- Maybe you take several toggle style bracelets and attach them together to create a new necklace
- Maybe you add a pendant to pearls or beads which you usually wear alone by the aid of a pendant enhancer.
- Maybe you mix your metals, white, rose and yellow gold all worn together.
- Maybe you wear more than one watch at a time, each set to different times...
- The options are endless and the rules no longer apply
